Wotan Wednesday

After thinking about what I was going to write about today, my husband threw out the idea of just writing about Wednesday.  Sounded good to me and turned out to be pretty interesting.

The mid-day of the week is named for the Norse God, Odin, who is associated with poetic and musical inspiration.  He was also known as Woden or Wotan (spiritual God).  Unlike many of the other days of the week, this day did not correspond roughly with the Roman designation for the day.  The early Scandinavians and Germans believed that Odin was the chief God of Asgard and as such deserved to have a day of the week named for him.  The Anglo-Saxons used the word, Wodnesdaeg (pronounced wohd-nes-dag).  Odin was also known to be the leader of souls.  That alone makes Wednesday my favorite day of the week.

Happy Wednesday!

ps Let us try to recognize the precious nature of each day.
